One of the most tangible changes the Covid-19 pandemic has brought is the steep increase in telehealth medical services or telemedicine. Many individuals living with chronic pain struggle to maintain in-person appointments due to physical inaccessibility.
Many have found themselves going without necessary care under their chronically painful lived experience, whether due to the chronic pain itself or barriers such as reliable transportation.
Other individuals with long-term health concerns face similar struggles, such as those living with disability, mental illness, and more. In all cases, barriers to care frequently involve the difficulties associated with in-person appointments.
Of course, there are clear benefits to in-person appointments; however, as the pandemic has demonstrated, telemedicine is helping to break down accessibility barriers for many across the country.
Telemedicine allows patients to connect with their physicians from the comfort of their own homes. They can see their doctors, go over their symptoms, discuss medication(s), and form treatment plans, all without the struggle and strain associated with in-person treatment.
They are seeking to capitalize on the growing trend of telehealth.
Telemedicine necessitates using a computer or laptop with a webcam. While computers have become a modern necessity, they still come with a price tag not all can afford. Telemedicine nonetheless demonstrates excellent promise in closing accessibility gaps for many across the United States with such barriers in mind.
Growing leaders within this sphere of care, particularly those treating patients with chronic pain, seek to implement and utilize the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 11 pain diagnosis protocol more widely. This diagnostic protocol helps to classify pain diseases and conditions associated with chronic pain more accurately, which better informs treatment plans moving forward.
Providers hope the rise in telemedicine appointments and the greater use of the ICD 11 pain diagnosis protocol will increase both the affordability and accessibility of chronic pain healthcare services moving forward, both within the scope of the Covid-19 pandemic and beyond.
Tempe, AZ-based eDrugstore.com, the leader in online lifestyle telemedicine, reports that the rise of telemedicine in the healthcare industry has resulted in unexpected benefits not only for patients, but for physicians as well.
The sudden rise and effectiveness of telemedicine have surprised even long-time advocates. “Our focus was entirely on customer safety and social distancing,” Secure Medical President Kyle Rao tells us, “so even we were surprised when we began discussing the impacts with the doctors on our team and found silver linings.”
Among the benefits, the Secure Medical team has found:
More patient comfort and satisfaction: Even without a pandemic, patients anxious about medical settings are more comfortable with telemedicine, making it easier for doctor and patient to connect and limiting patient anxiety.
A broader range of patients: Since patient visits are no longer limited by physical distance, doctors can expand their practices without geographic limitations.
More frequent engagement: Doctors have found that because telehealth visits take less time, patients are more likely to book and keep appointments, making care more consistent and more comfortable to offer.
Easier referrals and consultations: With patient consent, doctors can bring in consultants or connect with a patient’s other doctors faster and more effectively, improving communication and health outcomes.
Earlier interventions: As doctors are more accessible, patients are more likely to approach them with health concerns, allowing providers to catch potential risks early.
Overall cost reduction: Telehealth visits are less expensive for both doctor and patient. Patients don’t need to pay for transit or child care or use paid time off to visit, while doctors can limit overhead and more effectively triage patients.
Telemedicine is here to stay for most doctors. “It’s become clear that the broader healthcare system needs telemedicine,” Rao says, “and we’re hopeful doctors and patients alike will get more out of it.”
Secure Medical is a pre-pandemic veteran of telemedicine visits for online prescription ordering. eDrugstore’s 100% online services include physician consults that are safe, flexible, private, and convenient.

As healthcare systems cope with coronavirus, generic ED drug prices continue to fall
TEMPE, AZ, UNITED STATES, May 5, 2020 – eDrugstore.com, the nation’s leading provider of online prescription lifestyle medications, continues to monitor prescription prices as COVID-19 puts added stress on the healthcare system. Prices for the majority of both generic and branded erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs fell between July 2019 and January 2020. However, branded drug prices bounced back in February 2020.
Trends are drawn from pricing data from 15 retail chain pharmacies and three online medical facilitators, including eDrugstore.com. Data was collected for Viagra and generic sildenafil, Levitra and generic vardenafil, Cialis and generic tadalafil, Staxyn, and Stendra.
The majority of ED drugs declined in price between 2019 and 2020, with generic drugs accounting for the steepest decline in prices. Viagra was the only branded drug to increase in price between July 2019 and January 2020.
Viagra proved the exception in February 2020 as well, being the only branded drug to decrease in price. Levitra saw the largest price increase among branded drugs at 4.10%. Generic drug prices continued to fall between January and February 2020, with Tadalafil daily, the generic drug for Cialis Daily, experiencing the sharpest decline at 22.96%.
“Generic drugs help consumers save money across the board,” stated Kyle Rao President at Secure Medical. “As branded drug prices rise, it’s important for patients to have access to affordable prescription medications. eDrugstore.com offers cost-effective branded and generic ED medications online.”
By monitoring drug-pricing trends, eDrugstore.com provides consumers with comprehensive, up-to-date information so they can make the right choices for their treatment. “eDrugstore.com is committed to saving patients time and money when ordering their preferred treatment options,” continued Kyle. “And we will continue monitoring prescription prices to see if they hold insights for drug prices in general during COVID-19.”

TEMPE, Ariz.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Tempe, Arizona-based eDrugstore.com reported that prices for the three biggest drugs for erectile dysfunction (ED) dropped during the last six months of 2019, according to exclusive polling data from all major pharmacy chains. Though some prices crept up slightly toward the end of the year, December prices for all of these drugs were lower than their July prices.
“Once generic ED drugs hit the market a few years ago, patients experienced significant price relief when treating erectile dysfunction. eDrugstore.com offers both branded and generic versions of these drugs, with the convenience of a free online medical consultation and fast shipping to customers’ homes. ”Tweet this
These trends were extracted from pricing data on branded and generic ED drugs collected from 15 retail chain pharmacies and three online medical facilitators including eDrugstore.com. Pricing data was collected for Viagra and generic Sildenafil, Levitra and generic Vardenafil, and Cialis and generic Tadalafil.
The pricing plateau that emerged by the end of the year indicates that consumers may have seen most of the price benefit of new generic competitors, at least for the time being. However, Viagra will lose what remaining patent protection it has in 2020, which could prompt additional generic competitors, pushing prices down again once that happens.
Of the branded ED drugs, Levitra experienced the biggest drop in average price, of 9.9% from July through December. Average price for Viagra fell by 3.24%, while the average price for Cialis fell by 3.2%. Meanwhile, the average price for both Sildenafil (generic Viagra) and Tadalafil (generic Cialis) fell by 27.3%.
These price changes are summarized in the following table:
